ACTION ADVENTURE / ORIGINAL GAME PLAYBOOK

Petal Quest

Gather twigs, rebuild a bridge, light a dark thicket and outwit a grumpy three-phase beetle in a tiny garden.

THE GAME LOOP

A small idea worth finishing.

  • Tile-map exploration with villagers whose lines follow the quest, a five-twig bridge built by holding Action, and sundial checkpoints
  • Three unlocks that open new routes: a dash over puddle gaps, a thorn strike for brambles and shells, and a lantern for the dark
  • Readable foes (wandering aphids, rolling pill-bugs, spore puffs) and a three-phase boss that can only be hurt while dizzy
THE LOOK & FEEL

A world with its own personality.

  • Procedural canvas sprites drawn at 2x: a seedling with walk, strike and roll poses, four villagers, bugs and a big armoured beetle
  • A palette per area (morning village, noon meadow, dusk thicket, burrow) with painted ground and depth-sorted trees, pots and lamps
  • Tells drawn on the ground: charge lanes with chevrons, stomp rings and falling-acorn shadows, plus petals, fireflies and a lantern-lit dark
MADE FOR THUMBS

Plan the phone experience first.

Virtual stick bottom-left; a big Action button that names its job and a Dodge button bottom-right, 48px+ in safe areas; dialogue hides them.

The playbook requests H5 layouts and input. Real-device playtesting is still part of the build.

DONE MEANS PLAYABLE

The checks this game should pass.

  • Every twig is reachable and counted once, the bridge needs all five, and a save edit can't skip the quest order.
  • An input-only bot clears the whole quest on both difficulties; idle play and careless fighting on Brave run out of tries.
  • The beetle only takes damage while dizzy, each phase adds its tells, and a roll through the stomp ring avoids the hit.
  • Practice lessons need real actions and advance in order, emit no session events and save the tutorial as done.

These are requirements for your future build, not results already verified for this prompt.

Its cover uses the normal gameplay camera.
